Werkadoo Rocks SXSW

March 15, 2010 at 5:15 pm | Posted in 1 | Leave a comment

We went to SXSW on a mission to spread the werd, but never expected people loved panda bears so…

On Friday, March 12th, the Werkadoo panda bear, donned by Mr. Teddy Boxberger himself, descended on Austin for the SXSW interactive conference. We just thought, “Hey, our shirts are black, they would look great on a panda, people love to hug pandas, let’s do it!”

What resulted was a ton of folks in pictures with our panda, SXSW officials asking us to leave for getting so much awesome attention, news 8 Austin giving us an interview, and the panda making the front page of the business section of the Houston Chronicle! Not bad for a startup with a budget trying to make a splash at one of the biggest tech conferences on the planet. We’re just happy that people are starting to hear the werd about Werkadoo, and catching on to our philosophy of being ‘The eHarmony of Business’.

We think behind every great resume is a great professional, and the best way to connect businesses with workers is to do it on a human level, and make sure they’re a great fit for each other before the hiring begins. Anyway, we digress, but take a look at our facebook page for more updates and pictures from SXSW!

Until next time…

Hopefully you’ve had a chance to browse the new Werkadoo site and get acquainted with all of the features, but in case you haven’t, here are some quick tips for posting a project on Werkadoo.

So you’ve got a project that needs to get done and wisely you’ve decided to post it on Werkadoo, what now? First, make a profile. This will tell the Werkers bidding on your project a little bit about who they’re working for. Now all you have to do is click ‘Post a Project’ and tell us what you need to accomplish, upload any project documents, what skills the project requires, give us a time frame, and start getting matched instantly. It’s that easy.

No more sifting through stacks of resumes for you my friend, you’ve just posted a project on Werkadoo. Now just sit back and relax while we sift through our pool of talented professionals or teams and present you with the top ten matches for your project. Now aren’t you the smart one?

And as always, if you’re not sure what you need, feel free to give us a call, we’re here to help.

Werkadoo is helping plan Houston @ SXSW, a fantastic event being held in Austin on Monday, March 15th from 7pm-2am. The goal of the event is to showcase Houston Startups, Bands, Organizations, and everything else that’s great about Houston. Here’s an exerpt from the eventpage:

Houston@SXSW will be held March 15, 2010, at Hudson on Fifth in Austin during SXSW. From 7pm to 2am, we will spotlight and support Houston Filmmakers, Interactive and Tech Startups, and Music Talent:

* 7:00pm – 8:30pm : Houston Interactive & Tech Presentations & Exhibits
* 8:30pm – 9:00pm : Houston Film Showcase (Curated by Houston Film Commission & South West Alternate Media Project (SWAMP))
* 9:00pm – 2:00am : Houston Music Showcase (Curated by Houston Music Writers & Fans)

Join us in supporting Houston’s creative and innovative community! We seek Sponsors to help defray costs and ensure that the event can remain free for anyone and everyone who wants to stop by and support Houston@SXSW. To ensure Sponsors and participants get maximum exposure, the event will be open to all (no badge necessary!); and we will execute a full marketing and social media campaign to build awareness, buzz and attendance.

We strongly believe in #SLGT – “Support Local, Grow Together” – and promoting the great talent, businesses and community that Houston has to offer. We aim to bring it all together under one roof at SXSW for others to learn about and experience. We invite you to play an important role in helping make this happen – and to benefit from its goodwill and publicity – by joining us as a Houston@SXSW Sponsor.

The Remote Working Revolution

February 14, 2010 at 5:29 pm | Posted in 1 | Leave a comment

Will you be part of it?

Let’s face it, whether you like it or not, the way people work is changing, that’s established, it’s already happening. The real question is; are you a part of it?

Small to medium sized businesses, feeling the tightening of the recession, are moving to the web in droves to find talented individuals that will do exactly what they need without all the “extras.” Just in case you’re still doing things the old way, by “extras,” I mean desks, computers, benefits, salaries; all things that were part of the fabric of the American work environment for decades. That’s right, all that “junk” is out the window, so what does the modern American worker look like you ask? I like to think of him/her as dressed-down, ready to work in his favorite work environment (i.e. coffee shop, co-working space, living room couch), with a cup of coffee and a laptop. That’s really all that’s needed. When it comes down to it what does a small business owner want out of their web developer, someone they can see and touch and overpay or a top-notch website? It’s all about the work!

More and more workers are moving out of the corporate environment and becoming free agents. Those that were laid off have had to change the way they think about work and what exactly work is for them. To be sure it can be stressful at first, but these “free agents” quickly get steady work, not to mention income from several different streams, and enjoy working virtually over the office life they left behind. Gone are commutes and business trips for face-to-face meetings and in their places are web-based, collaborative communication and messaging tools. People are realizing they can spend more time with friends and family and optimize their productivity because they’re happy and comfortable when they’re working.

Whether you’re at home flipping through job boards or at your current job you’ve probably already thought about working virtually, maybe you’re scared to take the leap or just not ready yet. One thing’s for sure; you probably will switch over eventually. We’ll be here when you’re ready.

You can check these articles out to read more about the way work is changing.

The New Werkadoo!

October 29, 2009 at 1:03 am | Posted in Website | 2 Comments

Hello Small Businesses And Workers Of The World!

Werkadoo.com is here to help better bring you folks together, and getting work done. We started with the idea that the job boards and other methods of finding and getting work done out there were not adequate, and there needed to be changed. Our mission has always been to bring together professionals with businesses that need their services, and with that in mind, we’re building a site with some really cool features:

1. Match-Making: Werkadoo’s unique, new match-making engine will pair up your project needs as a business or project manager with exactly the right candidate or team based on a combination of soft personality traits and qualified expertise.

2. Team Formation: We’ll be giving you the ability to form teams; so all of the individual superstars out there can band together to form dream teams and compete on a higher level with the big agencies. It’s going to be awesome, seriously.

3. Werkspace Customization: We know that every project is different, and requires different tools. We also know that every person is different, and has their own tools and preferences. For that reason, Werkadoo will be allowing you to plug in all of those great collaboration and communication tools you already use, right into your fully customizable Werkspace. After all, no one likes being in a box, anyway.

We’re excited about the future, and our product will be ready for public beta testing in December. Please stay in touch, and shoot us an email at beta@werkadoo.com if you’d like to be a part!

-The Werkadoo Team
